Dr. Gustáv Husák

Viliam Klimáček: Dr. Gustáv Husák (Presidents´ Prisoner – Prisoners´ President)

Gustáv Husák was the last president of the communist Czechoslovakia. There are many events and episodes in his life which had a profound influence on Czechoslovakia´s history. What drove the elegant and intelligent lawyer to become the leader of the country? Why this important figure of the postwar history ended up in a prison? And more importantly – who was Gustav Husák? What was behind his impenetrable face? The play brings a fascinating confrontation of Husak´s speeches, documents and namely dialogues from various periods of his life. As the story unwinds it becomes evident that there are many historical facts which we were not aware of or which we have already forgotten but which nevertheless have had a serious impact of life in Slovakia. The magic of theater revives dialogues authenticity while respecting the historical distance.
